But the biggest reminder for me is that negativity is so unbecoming and brings others down. When she would ask others "well what did you think of that?" in her tone of distaste she was wanting to have her rebellion to change, be validated and accepted. The responses were actually working against her though as people actually liked the forward momentum of the company. I get it, change is hard but some people just like to complain about everything.
For example, back in the day, I was a High School Secretary. I was about 3 years older than the Seniors, so I'm sure me enforcing the rules was laughable. My co-worker and I became quite negative about our thoughts and comments about annoying things, and it became more frequent and hte norm. If you have never worked in a customer service kind of job, you have missed out on exercising your extreme patience muscle. One day we both had a light bulb moment realizing that our negative attitude wasn't helping take the issue away, it was just making us hate our jobs, making us grumpy and ruining our day. We instantly flipped a "no negative comments switch" and we noticed quite a difference. We were happier and laughed a lot more. I think we became closer friends that day, understanding that our imperfections are okay to discuss as we worked on them together.
So I challenge myself and others not to be those downers in the world. It's amazing just thinking positively and looking on the bright side of things how it can change your whole outlook on your day.
